In a bigger ship especially, decoupled mode will however eventually be your best friend to counter smaller ship's extra maneuverability. At the start, dont bother with boost or decoupled too much, just learn some basic flying skills. Continue getting your ass kicked until you start getting your ass kicked less. You will start picking up on tricks that you see other pilots doing. Once you can reliably beat them, go into PvP in battle royale and get your ass kicked a lot. Swap to vanduul swarm to get practice in targeting, and pirate swarm for hard hitting enemies. Once you have that figured out, you are going to just practice. You will find the toggle for it in the options. Then, figure out if you like lag pips or lead pips more. Your lancer in default config is actually very domineering at pirate swarm, so its a good place to start.

You wont win, but the ships are easier to hit than vanduul. First, go into arena commander and do pirate swarm.
